Aerodynamics & Cooling
The aerodynamics and cooling subsystem is responsible for influencing how the car interacts with the air around it. Skills such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computer-aided design (CAD), and composite manufacturing can be learned as a member of the subsystem.
Chassis & Cockpit
For DMS-25, we will be keeping the previous years chassis and improving on mechanical features around the car and in the cockpit, such as a new dash, new flag switch panel, new seat, and new VCU enclosure. We also have begun development on the all new frame for the DMS-26.
Electrical & Battery
The electrical team is responsible for the vehicle's high- and low-voltage systems, including the design of our accumulator and electronic control systems. The electrical team is also responsible for the onboard sensors and data collection. Our team members design all the harnesses and circuit boards in-house.
Suspension
The suspension system deals with the dynamics of the car as it manoeuvres on track. The goal of our suspension is to maximize the grip our tires can provide as well as allow the car to handle predictably and consistantly. The suspension subsystem also handles much of the cars performance data such as our shock potentiometer’s and tire temperature.
Brakes
The brakes subsystem designs, builds, and implements the hydraulic braking system. Areas of focus include pedal deck design, hydraulic system architecture, and tuning for optimal performance with regenerative braking
Drivetrain
The drivetrain subsystem aims to ensure power transmission from the EMRAX 228 electric motor to the wheels. The Cascadia Motion, PM-100DX inverter is used to convert DC from the battery to AC for the motor which is converted to mechanical torque that drives a single stage chain and sprockets setup, tensioned with aluminum sliding blocks and packaged as one unit. Goals for the DMS-25 drivetrain include developing a validated cooling system for the motor and motor controller, lightweighting the assembly and making it more serviceable.
Finance and Marketing
Finance and Marketing is key to the operation of the team. Our team is entirely funded by sponsors and the Finance and Marketing department is responsible for aquiring as well as our maintianing or relationship with them. This includes participating and organizing events that the car will participate in as well as creating media to showcase the car.
